Resting In The Tao

The one that wanders, the one who is stricken with bondage to his sensual desires, knows great suffering in the world. If he could only turn his attention within rest peacefully in the wisdom of the Tao for a while, it would be just like one’s wandering in the hot sun, one’s coming back to the cool shade of a tree and the subsiding of the feeling of oppressive heat.

The discriminative person having once suffered in the hot sunshine, will not like to go again into the sunshine from the shade. Likewise, those who have suffered in the heat of suffering which scorches this world, should not again turn out toward the world, and instead turn within and cultivate their reflective nature.
