One Hut

The Dao is impartial to all. Rain does not fall on just one hut. The sun does not shine just on one grain of sand. It has been said by some that the sage should do likewise. However, that line of thinking is rather impractical in some terms. We certainly should not treat a family member the same as a stranger we have just met. Rather, perhaps what the verses hint to is that we should not rush to judgments about things and people. Until we walk a mile in the sandals of another, until we navigate the path they do, we should not make haste to come to conclusions. When we jump to conclusions, we often wind up with a twisted ankle.
