One Summer Night

I try to remember but I can’t. I just can’t recall. It was a hot summer night many years ago and a friend and me met these two girls at a gas station. The rest is like one of those stories you read in a men’s magazine. They followed us in their car to the beach and in virtually no time we paired off and were making love; but for the life of me I can’t remember her name and only vaguely what she even looked like. It was just a passing moment void of any meaning, no different than passing someone in the shopping mall and barely noticing them. At the end of the evening, she told me she cruised around a lot in some color of van and invited me to join them some time, but as is often the case, we were two ships passing in the night and we never saw each other again. Two ships crossing a mighty ocean and looking for something but maybe not quite sure of what it was we were looking for.
