Bushwhacked

The term ‘bushwhacked’ meant in the Old West to be accosted by a person or persons that were’ lying in wait for you with the idea to ambush or to assault you to steal valuables from you or to do bodily injury to you… Generally, it means to launch a surprise assault from a hidden place, especially if the victim is unarmed…many times in the old west, stagecoaches or horse riders were ‘bushwhacked’ meaning that they would be attacked by outlaws hiding behind trees or rocks waiting for the victims to ride by…it could also refer to any general assault on an unsuspecting target…it was generally seen as a cowardly act by most folks, but it took place many times back in the day.
