John Wesley Hardin

John Wesley Hardin was a gunfighter and outlaw from the Old West…he was known for killing anywhere from 27 to 42 men during his life…he also drove cattle on the Chisolm Trail where he ran into disputes with rustlers, Indians, and Mexicans…several were settled with gunfire…Hardin once shot a man for snoring…Hardin was eventually captured and tried, and then sent to jail…once in jail, Hardin began to study law…he served 17 years…he was eventually released but couldn’t stay out of trouble…he was charged with negligent homicide in one case…he was playing dice in a saloon when he was shot in the back of the head and killed by an El Paso lawman named John Selman Jr…who himself was killed shortly thereafter by a U.S. Marshal…Hardin was buried and as late as 1995, a controversy ensued between two groups…one of which wanted Hardin buried by his wife in Nixon, Texas…but a judge ruled he should remain buried in El Paso.
