Degelis

Here’s something unusual…a Dégelis, a word that comes from Old French, means a part of the water free of ice… no matter how cold the conditions are…this is the phenomenon observed in Dégelis, Quebec which is a small community on the Quebec and New Brunswick border…there appears to be no apparent reason for this…it is both unusual and unexplained…the city itself is located on the banks of the Madawaska River (Saint John River)… the city was given its name due to this physical phenomenon… imagine…a portion of the river located in front the village that never freezes…how bizarre!
