Ace Bailey helped the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Stanley Cup championship in 1932…his career came to an end however the next year in 1933…Bailey was hit from behind by the Boston Bruins’ Eddie Shore…Bailey hit his head on the ice and fractured his skull…doctors gave him only hours to live…Bailey however did recover although he never played in the NHL again…an all-star benefit game was held in his honor and the crowd cheered as Shore and Bailey shook hands and embraced at center ice…he later went on to work for Toronto for many years after…his #6 was retired by the Leafs and his jersey was the first one ever retired by an NHL club.
